Cheese Barrel in the Swan Valley
The Swan Valley Food and Wine region, thirty minutes from central Perth, has plenty of wonderful vineyards, restaurants and cafes in which you can have lunch and a glass (or bottle..) of wine.
Next door to Olive Farm Wines
However, if you like a nice bit of Cheese with your Wine then there is a great place for you called the Cheese Barrel in the heart of the Swan Valley. Situated conveniently next door to the award winning Olive Farm Wines‘ cellar door on the Great Northern highway, the Cheese Barrel is a haven for those looking to try a huge variety of cheeses from all over the World.
Cheese with a view
The Cheese Barrel in the Swan Valley has three different seating areas where you can sit and enjoy a glass of wine, tea and coffee, sweet treats (including a cheese cake of course) or a huge selection of delicious cheeses.
Room for the kids to play whilst parents relax
One of the seating areas is inside the Cheese Barrel close to the action where you can sit next to their large glass cabinet of cheese. Most of the seating is out on the decking with views over the Susannah Brook and grass lawn. Downstairs under the decking there is another large seating area with shaded sand pits to keep the kids amused whilst the parents tantalise their tastebuds (or just relax in peace…).
The Cheese Maker
If you pop into the Cheese Barrel at the weekend you are likely to see ‘The Cheese Maker’ at work. The Cheese Maker is a Perth based business specialising in teaching the art of home cheese making. Tanya, the owner of The Cheese Maker, runs half day and full day courses from the kitchen in the Cheese Barrel and has so far taught thousands of people how to make cheese at home.
Explore Tours Perth Hints and Tips
For those who want to try some wine with their cheese but don’t want to drink too much and drive, try the Cheese Barrel wine flights. Wine flights perfectly match small tastings of wine with cheeses and at the Cheese Barrel they beautifully present the wines on a cork rack – the wine flight we tried had four cheeses and four wines. Delicious!
