Celebrating Lunar Chinese New Year 2019 in Perth, Western Australia

This Chinese New Year 2019 brings in the year of the Pig and Perth has lots of exciting things planned to celebrate including Lion-dancing, special entertainment, fantastic lunar inspired restaurant specials & more. Chinese New Year starts on 5 February 2019 and we have plenty to keep you occupied this lunar new year.

Perth Chinese New Year Fair – Northbridge | 10 February 2019

Join in the new year celebrations as the  2019 Perth Chinese New Year Fair comes to Northbridge. Featuring a multicultural parade, stalls, cultural activities, a multi-cultural concert, lion and dragon dances, rides, games and more. Find out more

Chinese New Year at Brookfield Place | Begins 5 February 2019

From 5 – 15 February, ring in the Chinese New Year with a program of festivities including art installations, performances, special offers and events in Brookfield Place.

Traditional Lion Dance and Blessing of the Precinct:
Ring in the Chinese New Year with a bang at one, or all, of the traditional Lion Dance performances that will be taking place around the precinct. Follow the lion on his path as he blesses businesses, retailers, visitors and guests and wishes them well for the year ahead.

Thursday 7 February
11:30am – 12:30pm
Blessing of the Brookfield Place Café Court and Main Square performance.

1:00pm – 2:00pm
Blessing of the Podium and St Georges Terrace retailers.

5:30pm – 6:30pm
Blessing of the cafés, bars and restaurants in the Heritage Buildings and Lower Heritage Lane.

Chinese Lanterns & Festive Art
If you prefer quiet contemplation, pause a while in the shade to admire the colourful lanterns adorning the trees on the podium level outside Tower 1 and in Heritage Square. Other Instagram-able art installations around the precinct will include dramatic lion statues and a canopy of coloured lanterns in Georges Lane.

Lunar New Year Lantern Festival | 17 February

Enjoy the beautiful red lanterns as you walk down William Street in Northbridge. The festival will run along William Street, from Roe to Brisbane Street and features lion dancers, kid’s activities and roving entertainment in the event zone between Newcastle and Monger Street. Find out more.

Chinese New Year – Sorrento Quay Boardwalk

On 10th of February, celebrate Chinese New Year at Sorrento Quay Boardwalk with a fun, family-friendly range of fun activities and performances including:

  • Lion Dancing at 11:30 am,
  • Chinese dancing at noon and
  • An incredible Chinese orchestra at 12:30pm.

Chung-Wah Chinese New Year – Pan Pacific Hotel – 16th Feb 2019

Pan Pacific Hotel is celebrating the Chinese new year with style. This elegant ball is run by the Chung-Wah association and will be filled with traditional Chinese food and performances.

Celebrate Chinese New Year at Mandoon Estate at a family event with plenty of entertainment with the highlight featuring a Dragon Dance by the Chungwa Association. Find out more.

Eating Your Way Through Chinese New Year

Not only are there incredible events happening in and around Perth, but there are also many restaurants sizzling up some delicious dishes to match. Chins in Leeming are including live performance, firecrackers, and lion dancing.

Fortune Five Chinese Restaurant in Northbridge is putting on a fantastic banquet menu to celebrate the new year. Enjoy some fabulous yum chow at the new restaurant Shy Johns in Yagan Square. This place serves amazing salt and pepper squid, prawn dumplings and refreshing cocktails to wash it all down.

      Hi Beau, apologies for the delayed response. I am sure you heard about the very sad plane crash and that the scheduled fireworks were cancelled. The City of Perth does usually put on Fireworks every year.

        Hi Chris, as far as we know all the Chinese New Year Events in Perth have already taken place. We would suggest contacting the local council for Burswood to confirm that?
